Google Earth

Google Earth is a desktop software package that allows users to view GIS data and services. If you do not currently have Google Earth, you can download it for free at http://earth.google.com/ . (Note: There is also Google Earth Pro which allows users to add GIS data and create fly over movies. Google Earth Pro is not free.)

Below are simple instructions to add the Peak Flood Forecast OGC Web Mapping Service (WMS) to Google Earth as an image.

1.) Click the "add" dropdown in Google Earth. Select "Image Overlay" in the dropdown window shown below.

2.) Next select "WMS Parameters" as shown below.

3.) Type "http://ffdt.rrbdin.org/mapmorphv1/cgi-bin/mapserv?map=../ffdtwms.map&" in the WMS Server text box and click "Add" as shown below.

4.) Select the "PeakFlood" layer and click "Add" to add it to the map as an image. By default the image will come in to the map with a white background. To change the transparency, right click the image name in "My Places" and select "Properties". Move the transparency slider 1/3 of the way across to clear.
